With this in mind, we are excited to organize: Emergency Colonic Stenting: How Ready Are You? The full-day workshop will delve into the basics of colonic stenting which will be facilitated by 4 expert surgeons, including hands-on training at a skills lab.

MEET THE FACULTY

Dr. Ng Chee Yung

Mt. Elizabeth – Novena
Dr Ng graduated in medicine in 1997 from the University of Western Australia and obtained his postgraduate qualifications in surgery from the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland in 2002. He went on to obtain further qualifications from the National University of Singapore in 2003 and the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh in 2007.

In 2008, Dr Ng completed an advanced colorectal surgery fellowship at the Royal North Shore Hospital in Sydney, Australia. He served from 2007-2011 at Tan Tock Seng Hospital as associate consultant and consultant surgeon and at Singapore General Hospital from 2012-2016 as consultant and senior consultant surgeon.

Dr Ng’s special interest and expertise is in minimally invasive surgery and colonic stenting. In addition to laparoscopic colorectal resections, he also performs complex procedures such as robotic colorectal resection, single port laparoscopy, extended lymph node clearance for advanced colorectal cancer, transanal endoscopic microsurgery and transanal total mesorectal excision.

Dr. Chong Choon Seng

National University Hospital
Dr Chong Choon Seng was appointed Assistant Professor in Surgery in 2014. He is currently a leading instructor in many colorectal cancer courses like taTME for rectal cancer, colonic stenting for malignant colonic obstruction and minimally invasive surgery for benign and malignant colorectal conditions.

As the Director of undergraduate studies in surgery, Dr Chong is significantly involved in both the undergraduate and postgraduate medical education. He has obtained numerous awards including Best teacher award, NUH Excellence teaching award and nominated role model for students over several years.

Dr Chong has published many publications namely in the field of colorectal cancers. He is also part of the editorial board and an invited speaker for local and overseas conferences. He is a faculty member of several societies namely, ASEAN Society of Colorectal Surgeons (ASCS), Asian-Pacific Study Group For Gastrointestinal Surgery (APGIS), Singapore Colorectal Cancer Society (SCRS) and International Digestive Workshop.

Dr. Fong Sau Shung

Tan Tock Seng Hospital
Dr. Fong is a Senior Consultant and Head of the Colorectal Service in the Department of General Surgery at Tan Tock Seng Hospital. His subspecialty interest is in surgery for cancers of the colon and rectum. He is also the director of the endoscopy centre in Tan Tock Seng Hospital. He is currently in the executive committee of the Society of Colorectal Surgeons, Singapore (SCRS), and held the position of Honorary Secretary of the same committee for 2 years (2016-2017).

His primary interest is in minimally invasive colorectal surgery. He is proficient for colon and rectal cancer surgery in conventional laparoscopic techniques, in robotic-assisted techniques and also in transanal techniques, including transanal mesorectal excision. He has been invited to give multiple talks on his robotic and transanal total mesorectal excision experience, and has performed demonstration of minimally invasive surgery in front of a live audience. He has also served as proctor for the technique of transanal total mesorectal excision (taTME) in Singapore and robotic rectal cancer resection in Vietnam.

Guest Faculty

Dr. Charles B. Whitlow

Ochsner Clinic Foundation,
New Orleans, LA
Dr. Whitlow is currently the Chairman of the Department of Colon and Rectal Surgery at the Ochsner Clinic Foundation in New Orleans. He is also a Fellow at the American Society of Colon and Rectal Surgeons and the American College of Surgeons.

He has published multiple works in the field of colorectal surgery including Patient Comfort in Colonoscopy in Seminars in Colon and Rectal Surgery, The development of the colon and rectal surgery milestones, and The ASCRS Textbook of Colon and Rectal Surgery among others.

As an expert in the field, Dr. Whitlow continues to share his knowledge through various lectures such as Lead case discussion on multidisciplinary panel on the treatment of colon and rectal cancer at the Tripartite Meeting of Colon and Rectal Surgeons in 2014 and Dysplasia and IBD at the Piedmont Society of Colon and Rectal Surgeons in 2012.
